Antique Cabinet Card Baby Infant Gown Lace Christening Dress Hidden Mother Chair
This striking antique cabinet card captures a somber Victorian portrait featuring a baby in a long, elaborate infant gown. The delicate lace christening dress stands out against the backdrop, while the scene reveals the curious historical practice of a hidden mother acting as a living chair to steady the child.
The composition offers a fascinating glimpse into nineteenth-century photography techniques. Collectors of mourning or early childhood ephemera will value this rare window into the lengths parents went to for a clear portrait.
A hauntingly beautiful example of a hidden mother cabinet card.
